The IRS has announced important deadlines for people who still have not received their stimulus check payment or who received a stimulus payment that did not include $500 per dependent child. If you miss the deadlines below, you will have to file your 2020 federal income tax return to claim the economic impact payment credit.

Are you still waiting for your IRS Stimulus Check?

If you did not automatically receive a stimulus check for $1,200 per adult and $500 per dependent child, you will need to apply online by October 15, 2020, using the IRS Non-Filer Tool on the IRS web site, at https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here. For people who don’t have internet access, you can apply by phone by calling the IRS at 1-800-919-9835.

Was your stimulus check missing the $500 payment for dependent children?

The IRS recently announced a September 30, 2020, deadline for people who have already received a stimulus check, but the check did not include a $500 payment for dependent children. This applies primarily to non-filers who received the adult stimulus check for $1,200 per adult due to receiving Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits, SSI (Supplemental Security Income) benefits, Railroad Retirement benefits, or VA (Veterans Affairs) Compensation and Pension (C&P) benefits. You will need to apply online, using the IRS Non-Filer Tool on the IRS web site, at https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here.
