A Brief History of TRLS
Three Rivers Legal Services, Inc. is a local, non-profit corporation which provides free civil legal services to low-income, eligible clients in seventeen counties throughout North Florida.
Our mission is to provide quality legal assistance to the poor, abused, disabled and elderly of North Florida and to empower and educate them through preventive legal education.
Three Rivers Legal Services was established in November 1977 after the merger of Storefront Legal Aid in Gainesville, Florida and a legal aid component of Suwannee River Economic Council in Live Oak. The new program first received funding from the Legal Services Corporation in 1978 to serve seven counties in North Central Florida. Five more counties were added in 1979 and in 2004 the program again expanded and now provides advice and legal assistance to low income persons in seventeen counties throughout North Florida.
Attorney Spotlight
The Volunteer Attorney Program recognizes a ttorney Leenette McMillan-Fredriksson for her contributions to pro bono. She has volunteered at several pro se divorce clinics, and drafted advanced directives for indigent clients. She has also helped several non-profit corporations with the incorporation process. She is great with clients and an invaluable asset to our pro bono program.
Leenette McMillan-Fredriksson practices in Mayo, Florida, and has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1996. Ms. McMillan-Fredriksson’s practice covers real estate, probate, and advance directives. Ms. McMillan-Fredriksson is also the Lafayette County Attorney and the Lafayette County School Board Attorney. She is an active Member of the Third Judicial Circuit Bar Association and has served on the Executive Board. Read more
