ELDER LAW
What special legal issues do senior citizens face?
Cases involving abuse, exploitation and neglect of an older person are our top priority. However, elder law involves many other legal issues. Seniors can face several legal issues such as decision-making abilities, real estate issues, gifting, legal issues following the death of a spouse and nursing home abuse. Elder law is a field of law that focuses on the needs of older people and the issues they encounter. Elder law generally addresses three general concerns:
Long-term care issues, including planning for the payment of the costs of assisted living or nursing home care.
Estate planning and administration, including wills, trusts, probate, and estate taxes.
Guardianship and conservatorship issues, including court proceedings to appoint someone to make decisions for an incapacitated person.
